Description
xThe Thresher’s Embedded Hydrophobic Fabric is a water-repellent technology built into the fabric itself, not applied as a surface coating. It actively repels water from the suit during the race, reducing the weight and drag that water absorption creates and maintaining the suit’s compression from the first stroke to the last.
Targeted compression panels across the core and key muscle groups help to maintain an optimal, streamlined body position throughout the race. By supporting the muscles that keep your hips high and your stroke efficient, the Thresher helps you hold your technique even in the closing stages of a race.
Flatlock seams lie flat against the skin and conform to the body’s contours without bunching or creating raised ridges. This eliminates friction and pressure points during racing, and contributes to the sleek, body-conforming profile that the Thresher is designed to achieve in the water.

All measurements are body measurements, not garment measurements. If you are between sizes, use your hip measurement as the primary guide. For further guidance view our full TYR Thresher, Tracer & Fusion 2 Size Guide or contact our team.
A kneeskin has a single-piece construction that runs from the straps to just above or below the knee in one unbroken garment. A kneesuit refers to a suit where the leg section is a separate construction or has a distinct seam line at the hip. In practical terms for competition, both provide extended leg coverage and compression, but the construction and fit characteristics differ between models. The Thresher is classified as a kneesuit by TYR.
Use your hip measurement as the primary guide when sizing the Thresher Cryo. Compare against our TYR Thresher, Tracer & Fusion 2 Size Guide. Race suits are intended to fit significantly tighter than training suits. If you are between sizes, consult our team for specific advice on whether to go up or down.
Hydrophobic means water-repelling. Unlike suits where a water-repellent coating is applied to the fabric surface and degrades over time, the Thresher’s hydrophobic properties are embedded into the fibres themselves during manufacturing. This means the water-repellent effect is more durable and consistent across the life of the suit.
Rinse thoroughly in cool fresh water immediately after every use. Air dry away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not machine wash, tumble dry or wring. Avoid sitting on rough pool surfaces in the suit. See our full product aftercare guide for details.

Allens Swimwear is a family-run business founded in 1976 by Dennis Allen and his daughter Linda Beal. It started from a genuine need. “With 2 swimmers in the family it was often difficult to find the right kit, so dad and I took the plunge and started selling to local swimmers at our local pool in Kingsbury out of a suitcase and we’ve never looked back.” Today, Linda, her husband Richard, and three of their children Danny, Will and Jenna still run the business together. The suitcase may be long gone, but the founding principle of helping swimmers get the right kit remains exactly the same.

These are TYR's performance competition racing kneeskins, engineered for competitive female swimmers at club, county, regional and national level. TYR women's competition racing kneeskins are sized using four key body measurements: Chest, Waist, Hip and Torso. If you are between sizes, use your hip measurement as the primary guide. All measurements are body measurements, not garment measurements. If you are between sizes, use your hip measurement as the primary guide.
Watch our step-by-step guide to taking accurate body measurements for the perfect TYR racing kneeskin fit.
Take four body measurements — chest, waist, hip, and torso — using a soft tape measure against your skin. Compare to the sizing table above. If your measurements fall between two sizes, use your hip measurement as the primary guide. TYR's numeric sizing does not correspond directly to standard UK clothing sizes, so always use body measurements.
TYR explicitly recommend using the hip measurement as the primary guide when between sizes on their competition racing suits. A racing kneeskin must seat correctly over the hips before the rest of the suit can lie flat. If the suit is too small in the hip, it will be difficult to pull on and the straps may pull excessively on the shoulders.
The torso measurement is very important for kneeskins as it determines how the suit fits through the body length and whether the straps will sit correctly on the shoulders. If your torso measurement sits at the top end of a size bracket, the suit may feel short in the body or the straps may pull — in this case, compare your torso measurement to the next size up before making your decision. Speak to a member of staff at Allens if you are unsure.
The Thresher, Tracer and Fusion 2 share the same sizing chart and are all competition racing kneeskins from TYR's performance range. They differ in fabric technology, compression level, and price point. Speak to a member of staff at Allens Swimwear for guidance on which TYR racing kneeskin is best suited to your level and budget.
TYR produces a range of competition racing kneeskins designed for use in sanctioned competitive swimming events. Always check with your event organiser or governing body to confirm that the specific TYR kneeskin you have purchased is approved for the level of competition you are entering, as approval status can vary by product and event.
TYR competition racing kneeskins are designed for a close, compressive fit and will feel significantly tighter than a training swimsuit. This is intentional — the compression is engineered to support the body and reduce drag during racing. The suit should feel firm and snug but should not restrict breathing or movement. Allow 10–15 minutes to put the suit on correctly for the first time.
TYR racing kneeskins are not designed for regular training use. Using them for training will significantly reduce their lifespan and degrade the performance properties of the fabric. Reserve your racing kneeskin for competitions and competition warm-ups. TYR offer a range of training swimsuits designed for everyday pool use — speak to a member of staff at Allens for recommendations.
If you are between sizes, use your hip measurement to determine which size to select. If your hip sits at the top end of the smaller size, selecting the larger size will ensure the suit can be pulled on correctly and will sit flat without excessive tension. Also check your torso measurement — if it sits at the top end of the smaller size, the larger size may give a more comfortable body length. Speak to a member of staff at Allens if you are unsure.
Rinse your TYR racing kneeskin thoroughly in cold fresh water immediately after every use to remove chlorine and salt. Do not machine wash, tumble dry, iron, or dry-clean. Store flat and dry, away from direct sunlight. Avoid contact with sun cream, oils, or petroleum-based products as these degrade the fabric's performance properties.
TYR's original sizing chart lists all measurements in inches. Centimetre equivalents are available in the sizing table above — simply toggle between inches and cm using the button above the table. Both sets of values are body measurements taken directly from your body, not garment measurements.
