Choosing a girls’ legsuit

A legsuit combines a swimsuit top with legs that run partway down the thigh. Many young swimmers and parents prefer them because the extra coverage stays in place during dives, turns and push-offs. They’re also a practical choice where a little more modesty or sun coverage is wanted.

Training or competition?

For lessons and regular club sessions, look for training legsuits made from durable, chlorine-resistant fabrics. These tend to hold their shape and colour for longer with frequent pool use. For galas, some swimmers move up to a racing suit. Check your club or competition rules first, as some age groups have restrictions on which race suits can be worn.

Getting the fit right

A legsuit should feel snug but not restrictive. The straps shouldn’t dig in, and the legs shouldn’t ride up. Sizing varies between brands, so check the size guide on each product page before ordering. If your swimmer is between sizes, the guide will help you decide whether to size up or stick with the closer fit.

Looking after it

Rinse in cool fresh water after every swim and dry flat, away from direct heat. This helps the fabric and colour last.
