Size chart

This size guide covers the TYR Thresher, Tracer and Fusion 2 racing jammers — Men's, available in sizes 18–40. These are TYR's performance competition racing jammers, engineered for competitive swimmers at club, county, regional and national level. All measurements are body measurements taken directly from your body, not garment measurements.

TYR competition racing jammers are sized using two key body measurements: Waist and Hip. If you are between sizes, use your hip measurement as the primary guide. Always use body measurements rather than your usual clothing size — TYR's numeric sizing does not correspond directly to standard UK sizes.

How to Measure

Use a soft measuring tape and take all measurements directly against your skin. If you are between sizes, use your hip measurement as the primary guide.

  • A
WaistMeasure around the natural waist, keeping the tape level all the way around.
  • B
HipMeasure around the fullest, widest part of the hips and seat, keeping the tape horizontal.

Note: If your measurements fall across different size brackets, use your hip measurement as the primary guide. All measurements are body measurements, not garment measurements.

Fit Notes — TYR Thresher, Tracer & Fusion 2 Racing Jammer (Men's)
  • The TYR Thresher, Tracer and Fusion 2 are competition racing jammers designed for a close, performance fit. They will feel significantly firmer than a training jammer — this is intentional and expected for a racing suit.
  • If you are between sizes, use your hip measurement as the primary guide — the jammer must seat correctly over the hips before the waistband can sit flat and secure.
  • The jammer should be completely wrinkle-free when correctly fitted. Any bunching or gathering indicates the suit is too large.
  • The waistband should sit flat and secure with no rolling or gaping. If the waistband rolls, the suit may be too large.
  • The leg hems should feel snug but not restrict movement or blood flow. They should not dig in or cause discomfort during racing.
  • Allow 10–15 minutes to put on correctly for the first time. Take care with fingernails when pulling on the suit.
  • These are competition suits and not designed for training use. Regular training use will significantly reduce the lifespan of the suit. Reserve for races and competition warm-ups.
  • Rinse in cold fresh water immediately after every use. Do not machine wash, tumble dry, iron, or dry-clean.

Frequently Asked Questions — TYR Thresher, Tracer & Fusion 2 Racing Jammer (Men's)

Take two body measurements — waist and hip — using a soft tape measure against your skin. Compare to the sizing table above. If your measurements fall between two sizes, use your hip measurement as the primary guide. TYR's numeric sizing does not correspond directly to standard UK clothing sizes, so always use body measurements.

Competition racing jammers need to seat correctly over the hips before the waistband can sit flat. If the suit is too small in the hip, it will be extremely difficult to pull on and may cause discomfort or restrict movement during racing. TYR explicitly recommend using the hip measurement as the primary guide when between sizes on their competition racing suits.

TYR competition racing jammers are designed for a close, compressive fit and will feel significantly tighter than a training jammer. This is intentional — the compression is engineered to support the muscles and reduce drag during racing. The suit should feel firm and snug throughout but should not restrict breathing, movement, or blood flow. Allow 10–15 minutes to put the suit on correctly for the first time.

The Thresher, Tracer and Fusion 2 share the same sizing chart and are all competition racing jammers from TYR's performance range. They differ in fabric technology, compression level, and price point. Speak to a member of staff at Allens Swimwear for guidance on which TYR racing jammer is best suited to your level and budget.

TYR racing jammers are not designed for regular training use. Using them for training will significantly reduce their lifespan and degrade the performance properties of the fabric. Reserve your racing jammer for competitions and competition warm-ups. TYR offer a range of training jammers designed for everyday pool use — speak to a member of staff at Allens for recommendations.

TYR produces a range of competition racing jammers approved for use in sanctioned competitive swimming events. Always check with your event organiser or governing body to confirm that the specific TYR jammer you have purchased is approved for the level of competition you are entering, as approval status can vary by product and event.

If you are between sizes, use your hip measurement to determine which size to select. Competition racing jammers are designed for a very close fit, so if your hip sits at the top end of the smaller size, selecting the larger size will ensure the suit can be put on correctly and will sit flat without excessive tension. Speak to a member of staff at Allens if you are unsure.

Allow at least 10–15 minutes to put on a competition racing jammer correctly for the first time. Work the suit up gradually from the ankles, smoothing out any wrinkles as you go. Take care with fingernails — avoid pulling hard on the fabric. The suit should be completely wrinkle-free and smooth when correctly fitted. Do not use petroleum-based products, oils, or sun cream before putting on the suit.

Rinse your TYR racing jammer thoroughly in cold fresh water immediately after every use to remove chlorine and salt. Do not machine wash, tumble dry, iron, or dry-clean. Store flat and dry, away from direct sunlight. Avoid contact with sun cream, oils, or petroleum-based products as these degrade the fabric's performance properties.

TYR's original sizing chart lists all measurements in inches. Centimetre equivalents are available in the sizing table above — simply toggle between inches and cm using the button above the table. Both sets of values are body measurements taken directly from your body, not garment measurements.
