Size chart

This size guide covers the Speedo DMC Elite Max Fin — next-level speed and propulsion engineered for the strong competitive swimmer. The Elite Max features DMC's patented Reverse V Rail (RVR) technology for correct torque on every kick, SILFORM material for maximum comfort, an asymmetrical left and right foot cavity that stabilises ankle roll and decreases fatigue, and a bottom off-centre drain chute for efficient and smooth kicking. If you are looking for ultimate competitive performance from your training fins, the Elite Max is the choice.

Sizing Explained — DMC Fins

All feet are very different, so fitting a foot into a fixed shape foot cavity of moulded flexible material is an inexact science. Whilst DMC fins do not correlate directly to shoe sizes — as the construction of fins and shoes are very different — a close-to shoe size is provided as a secondary guide.

Please note: each DMC model has its own mould, so sizes may vary between models. The Original and Super Fin have a universal foot cavity, meaning you can wear either fin on either foot, giving a wider foot cavity. The Elite and Elite Max are specific left and right foot — always check the L/R markings before putting them on.

Tip: to test your fin size, sit on a chair, extend your legs and flex your ankle/foot out — this is your swimming position. Fins are not shoes so standing in them will not give an accurate size test.

How to Measure — DMC Elite Max Fin
How to measure foot length for DMC Elite Max Fin

Measure your foot length to find the correct fin size. Do not rely on shoe size alone — always measure foot length for the most accurate fit.

  1. 1
Stand on a piece of paper with your toe against a wall. Make a mark at the end of your heel (in the achilles arch) — this is where the fin strap sits.
  2. 2
Measure the distance from the wall to your heel mark in millimetres. This should be approximately 3–5mm less than your total foot length — this is the measurement to use in the size table.
  3. 3
If your measurement falls between two sizes, size up for a more comfortable fit.

How to Put On Your DMC Fins

DMC fins are made of a silicone-based material which offers maximum comfort. Like most polymers, care is required when putting the fin on to avoid overstretching the strap.

  1. 1
Push the fin as far onto the foot as possible before pulling the strap — never pull the strap first.
  2. 2
Lift the strap over the heel — do this gently and evenly to avoid stretching one side more than the other.
  3. 3
Adjust for comfort — the fin pocket should feel secure but not tight. If the fin feels painful or restricted, try the next size up.

DMC fins are made from SILFORM silicone — a maximum comfort material. Avoid exposing fins to abrasive materials or sharp objects which can damage the silicone.

Frequently Asked Questions — Speedo DMC Elite Max Fin

Stand on a piece of paper with your toe against a wall. Mark the end of your heel at the achilles arch — this is where the fin strap sits. Measure from the wall to your mark in millimetres. This should be approximately 3–5mm less than your full foot length. Use this measurement to find your fin size in the table above. If you fall between sizes, choose the larger size.

If your foot length falls between two sizes, always size up. Fins that are too tight can cause blisters, cramp, and discomfort during training. The silicone material will bed in slightly with use and mould to the shape of your foot over time. Speak to a member of staff at Allens if you are unsure.

Rinse the fins thoroughly in clean fresh water after every use to remove chlorine, salt, and debris. Store flat in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight. Do not fold or crease the blade during storage. Avoid walking on rough surfaces such as pool surrounds or concrete as this can damage the fin blade and silicone material.

DMC fins can be used in both pool and open water environments. However, they are primarily designed for pool training and bodysurfing. Always ensure fins are properly secured before entering open water, and avoid walking on sand or rough surfaces which can accelerate wear on the silicone blade.

DMC's patented Reverse V Rail (RVR) technology is engineered to offer correct torque for each kick. Unlike a standard V Rail which channels water from tip to blade, RVR reverses this to maximise propulsion and reduce energy loss, making the Elite Max the most powerful fin in the DMC range — ideal for competitive swimmers seeking maximum speed and efficiency.

SILFORM is DMC's proprietary silicone-based material used in the Elite Max fin. It offers maximum comfort while providing the structural rigidity needed to generate high levels of propulsion. SILFORM moulds to the foot over time for a personalised fit and is designed to be durable against the chlorinated pool environment.

Yes. The Elite Max Fin has a left and right specific foot cavity. Each fin is marked L (left) or R (right) — always check the markings before putting them on. Wearing a fin on the wrong foot will significantly reduce performance and may cause discomfort.

The Elite Max is engineered for maximum speed and propulsion for the strong competitive swimmer, using RVR technology and SILFORM material. The Elite Fin uses a V Rail design and standard silicone for a balance of power and comfort, making it more suitable for a wider range of swimmers including those new to competitive fins. The Elite Max also has an additional 2XS size not available in the Elite range.
