TWF Kids Shortie Wetsuit Size Guide

This size guide covers TWF Kids’ Shortie Wetsuits, including the Seahorse & Pirate Summer Shorties (2mm neoprene) and the Turbo Shortie (2.5mm neoprene). All suits feature flatlocked stitching, a zip with velcro lock, no underarm seams, and UPF 50+ protection — ideal for beach and sea use in summer conditions.

Sizing is based on chest circumference and neck-to-crotch length. Always use body measurements rather than age alone — children of the same age can vary considerably in size. Use the size code when ordering.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure and take all measurements directly against your child’s skin. Age is shown as a guide only — always use body measurements to find the correct size.

  • A
Chest Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape horizontal and snug but not tight. This is the primary sizing measurement.
  • B
Neck to Crotch Measure from the base of the neck, down the front of the body to the crotch. This confirms the body length of the suit will be comfortable.

If measurements fall between sizes, size up. Wetsuits should feel snug but should not restrict breathing. Wrists, ankles and neck should be snug with no excessive bagginess in the underarm or leg area.

Sizing Table — TWF Kids’ Shortie Wetsuits

All measurements are body measurements, not garment measurements. Age ranges are a guide only — always use chest and neck-to-crotch measurements to select the correct size. Use the size code when ordering.

Fit Notes — TWF Kids’ Shortie Wetsuits
  • Always size by chest and neck-to-crotch measurements, not age alone. Children of the same age can vary considerably in size — body measurements give a much more accurate fit than age guides.
  • A correctly fitted wetsuit should feel snug all over. Some reduction in range of motion is normal and expected — this is not a sign the suit is too small, provided breathing is not restricted.
  • The fit should not be too loose. A baggy wetsuit lets water flow freely through the suit, losing all the benefits of trapped water being warmed by the body. Wrists, ankles, and neck should all feel snug.
  • Some bagginess at the small of the back is normal and not a cause for concern.
  • If measurements fall between two size codes, size up for comfort and ease of movement.
  • The Seahorse & Pirate Shorties are 2mm neoprene with a polyester lining. The Turbo Shortie is 2.5mm with a mesh chest and back panel for additional wind chill reduction. Both are suitable for beach and sea use with UPF 50+ protection.
  • Rinse in fresh water after every use and hang to dry away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry, iron, or store folded when wet.

Frequently Asked Questions — TWF Kids’ Shortie Wetsuits

Measure your child’s chest circumference and neck-to-crotch length, then match both measurements to the size table above. Use chest as the primary guide and neck-to-crotch as a secondary check. If measurements fall between two size codes, size up. Always use body measurements rather than age alone.

The Seahorse and Pirate Summer Shorties are 2mm neoprene with a polyester lining — ideal for high summer use and lighter conditions. The Turbo Shortie is 2.5mm neoprene with a mesh chest and back panel for additional wind chill protection, making it suitable for slightly cooler conditions. All three share the same size chart.

Size up. A wetsuit that is slightly too large is more comfortable and easier to move in than one that is too small. If the larger size feels significantly too big across the chest or has excessive bagginess in the legs or underarms, the smaller size may give a better fit overall — contact our team for advice.

The TWF size code refers to the age range the suit is designed for, not a sequential size number. K06 covers ages 4–6, K07 covers 6–7, and so on. Some codes are skipped because TWF does not produce a separate size for every single year group — the available sizes are K02, K03, K04, K06, K07, K08, K09, K11, K12, K13 and K15.

A correctly fitted wetsuit should feel snug all over, with wrists, ankles, and neck fitting close to the skin. Some reduction in range of motion is normal. The suit should not be so tight that it restricts breathing. If it feels baggy anywhere other than the small of the back, it is likely too large and will let water flush through freely.

TWF shorty wetsuits are designed for beach and sea use — paddling, dipping, and general water play in open water conditions. They provide UV and wind chill protection rather than the high performance buoyancy of a dedicated open water swimming wetsuit. They are not designed for pool use.

Rinse thoroughly in fresh water after every use to remove salt, sand, and sunscreen. Turn inside out and rinse the interior as well. Hang to dry away from direct sunlight — prolonged UV exposure degrades neoprene over time. Do not tumble dry, iron, or store folded when wet. Store on a wide hanger to maintain the shape of the shoulders.
