Speedo Power Plus Paddle Size Guide

The Speedo Power Plus Paddle is a training paddle designed to build upper body strength and improve stroke mechanics. The contoured ergonomic shape mirrors the natural curvature of the hand for a comfortable, secure feel in the water, while the perforated paddle face reduces water turbulence for a more efficient pull. Dual tubular silicone straps can be rearranged across different flow-hole zones on the paddle face to customise the lock around the middle finger and wrist.

Available in four sizes — S, M, L and XL, each colour-coded by strap. Sizing is based on paddle dimensions. The paddle should extend roughly 1 to 2 cm beyond your fingertips. To find your size, measure your hand length (base of palm to tip of middle finger) and palm width (across the palm below the knuckles, excluding the thumb) and compare to the table below.

How to Measure Your Hand

Take both measurements on your dominant hand using a soft tape measure. The paddle should be just slightly larger than your hand — extending roughly 1 to 2 cm beyond your fingertips.

  • A
Hand Length Measure from the base of your palm to the tip of your middle finger. Compare this to the paddle length column in the table below.
  • B
Palm Width Measure across your palm below the knuckles, excluding the thumb. Compare this to the paddle width column in the table below.

The paddle dimensions are slightly larger than hand dimensions — select the paddle where your hand measurements fall just within or just below the paddle size. If between sizes, size up.

Sizing Table — Speedo Power Plus Paddle
Size Strap Colour Paddle Length (cm) Paddle Width (cm)
Small (S) Red / Pink 18.0 cm 15.2 cm
Medium (M) Yellow 21.8 cm 17.8 cm
Large (L) Blue 23.4 cm 19.0 cm
Extra Large (XL) White 24.4 cm 20.1 cm

Dimensions are paddle measurements. Compare your hand length and palm width to find the paddle where your measurements fall just within or just below the paddle size. The paddle should extend roughly 1–2 cm beyond your fingertips. If between sizes, size up.

Fit Notes — Speedo Power Plus Paddle
  • Choose a paddle that extends roughly 1 to 2 cm beyond your fingertips. Too large increases the risk of shoulder strain; too small will not provide enough pulling resistance.
  • Small is typically suited to smaller adults or junior swimmers. Medium is the standard size for most adult fitness swimmers. Large and XL are designed for advanced competitive swimmers with highly conditioned upper bodies.
  • Each size is colour-coded by strap — S is Red/Pink, M is Yellow, L is Blue, and XL is White — making it easy to identify your paddle quickly in a kit bag or busy lane.
  • The dual tubular silicone straps can be rearranged across different flow-hole zones on the paddle face to customise the lock around your middle finger and wrist. Experiment with different strap configurations until the paddle sits flat and stable against the palm.
  • When correctly fitted, the paddle should sit flat against the palm without the fingers pulling or bunching. If the paddle is tilting or the fingers are under strain, try adjusting the strap routing or reconsider the size.
  • Rinse in fresh water after every session and allow to dry naturally. Check the silicone tubing periodically for signs of wear and replace if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions — Speedo Power Plus Paddle

Measure your hand length (base of palm to tip of middle finger) and palm width (across the palm below the knuckles, excluding the thumb). Medium is the standard size for most adult fitness swimmers. Small is suited to smaller adults or junior swimmers. Large and XL are designed for advanced competitive swimmers with highly conditioned upper bodies who can handle the additional load on the shoulder joint during high-volume training sets.

The perforated face reduces water turbulence during the pull-through phase of the stroke. This gives a more efficient, cleaner pull compared to a solid paddle face, and provides better proprioceptive feedback on hand position and pull path during training.

Yes. The dual tubular silicone straps can be rerouted through different flow-hole zones on the paddle face to adjust the position and tension around the middle finger and wrist. This allows you to customise the fit so the paddle sits flat and securely against your palm during training.

A paddle that is too large increases the load on the shoulder joint with every stroke. Over time and during high-volume sets, this excessive load can cause shoulder strain or injury. Choosing a paddle that is just slightly larger than the hand — extending 1 to 2 cm beyond the fingertips — provides the resistance needed for training without placing an unsafe load on the shoulder.

The Power Plus Paddle in Small or Medium is suitable for swimmers who have a reasonable stroke foundation and want to build pulling strength. Complete beginners may find it easier to develop stroke technique without a paddle first. If you are new to paddles, start with Small or Medium and focus on maintaining correct stroke mechanics rather than maximising resistance.

Rinse in fresh water after every session to remove chlorine and debris. Allow to dry naturally away from direct sunlight. Check the silicone tubing straps periodically for wear or cracking and replace if needed. Store flat to prevent warping of the paddle face over time.
