This size guide covers the Speedo Open Water Swim Sock, available in Small, Medium and Large. Made from 3mm Yamamoto neoprene (a limestone-based neoprene), the swim sock is designed to keep feet warmer for longer during outdoor swims. The grippy sole provides protection underfoot on slippery riverbank entry points, and the Velcro-fastening ankle loop with gasket seal delivers a secure, adjustable fit with reduced water ingress. The optimised sock length works with or without a wetsuit.
Sizing is based on garment measurements — sole length (A), cuff width (B) and upper length (C). Use sole length as the primary guide and compare against your foot length for the closest fit.
All measurements in the size table below are garment measurements — they describe the sock itself, not your foot. Use sole length (A) as the primary sizing reference by comparing it to your foot length.
If between sizes, size up for a more comfortable fit. Neoprene has some stretch and will ease slightly with wear.
| Size | A — Sole Length | B — Cuff Width | C — Upper Length |

| Garment Measurements (cm) | |||
| Small | 23 cm | 8.7 cm | 20.5 cm |
| Medium | 24 cm | 9.2 cm | 21 cm |
| Large | 25 cm | 9.7 cm | 21.5 cm |
| Size | A — Sole Length | B — Cuff Width | C — Upper Length |

| Garment Measurements (inches) | |||
| Small | 9.1" | 3.4" | 8.1" |
| Medium | 9.4" | 3.6" | 8.3" |
| Large | 9.8" | 3.8" | 8.5" |
All measurements are garment measurements, not foot measurements. Use sole length (A) as the primary guide by comparing it to your own foot length. If between sizes, size up.
The size table shows garment measurements. Compare the sole length (A) to your own foot length — your foot should be equal to or slightly shorter than the sole length. If your foot measurement falls between two sizes, size up. Contact our team if you need guidance.
Yes. The Speedo Open Water Swim Sock is specifically designed to be worn with or without a wetsuit. The optimised sock length and Velcro ankle loop with gasket seal work together to reduce water ingress when worn under a wetsuit leg.
Yamamoto neoprene is a premium, limestone-based neoprene manufactured in Japan. Unlike standard petroleum-based neoprene, Yamamoto is known for its superior flexibility, warmth retention, and durability. It is used widely in high-performance wetsuits and open water accessories.
The 3mm Yamamoto neoprene construction provides good insulation for cold open water swimming. Swim socks are particularly useful in water temperatures below 15°C where cold feet can become uncomfortable or affect swimming performance. In warmer water they can still be used for sole protection on rough entry points.
The gripped sole provides traction and protection when walking to and from the water on slippery surfaces such as muddy riverbanks, rocky shores, and wet pool surrounds. It also offers underfoot protection against sharp stones and debris. The grip pattern is designed to be durable and maintain traction across a range of surfaces.
Roll the sock down before putting it on, then work it up over the foot gradually rather than pulling from the top. Wetting your foot or the inside of the sock slightly can help ease it on. Ensure the sock is fully seated with no folded neoprene before fastening the ankle loop. Take care with fingernails as neoprene can tear if snagged.
Rinse thoroughly in fresh water after every use to remove salt, chlorine, and debris. Turn inside out to rinse the interior as well. Allow to dry naturally away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not tumble dry, iron, or store compressed. Check the Velcro fastening periodically and keep it clear of debris to maintain its grip.
